NT Corrections Officers Stood Down After Prisoner Escape
Three Northern Territory corrections officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay following the escape of a prisoner from their custody over the weekend. The incident has prompted a full independent investigation into security protocols.
Isaac Thompson, 26, allegedly escaped from corrections staff on Sunday night while being escorted from an ambulance into the emergency department of Royal Darwin Hospital. The escape triggered a more than 48 hour manhunt that ended with his arrest yesterday.
Police have charged Thompson with escaping from lawful custody, assaulting a worker, and theft. A 45 year old man has also been charged with aiding the escape and breach of bail.
