Latrell Mitchell has delivered a pointed three-word response to questions about his NRL future, as South Sydney continue to delay contract talks with the star centre.
The 29-year-old's situation has become one of the league's most talked-about storylines in recent months, with the Rabbitohs making clear they will not offer him an extension before the season ends.
Mitchell remains contracted to the club until the end of 2027, but speculation has intensified ahead of November 1, when he becomes eligible to negotiate with rival clubs.
Souths adopt wait-and-see approach
Rabbitohs chief executive Blake Solly has confirmed the club will hold off on any decision until next year.
“Trell is a discussion for next season,” Solly told Fox Sports last week.
“He knows what he's got to do to get that extension and we're all on the same page.”
The uncertainty has opened the door for rival clubs to make their move. The Perth Bears are reportedly preparing an offer well north of $1 million a season, while Parramatta are also chasing a marquee outside back.
Mitchell focused on World Cup duty
Speaking to media on Thursday ahead of the Kangaroos' World Cup campaign, Mitchell said he had not heard anything from Souths about a new deal and was not in the mood to discuss it.
“I think for me, just focusing on camp is most important. I've got a different colour on to the Rabbitohs ... it's all about this camp and focusing on that,” he said.
When pressed further, Mitchell delivered a short, sharp remark.
“I'll ring Wayne,” he said before walking off.
Injury history clouds valuation
The Rabbitohs are understood to be hesitant to commit significant salary cap space to Mitchell again, given he has managed just 98 appearances in seven seasons.
His 2026 campaign was limited to just 12 games due to back and calf injuries.
However, when fit, Mitchell remains one of the most damaging players in rugby league, and Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters had no hesitation in selecting him for the Australian squad.
“His finish to the season was great for South Sydney,” Walters told NRL.com earlier this week.
“He's a big-game player, he can do some special things Latrell.
“My conversations with him for the last 16 months have been nothing but positive. He's looking forward to putting the green and gold back on and having a great tournament.”
Mitchell is set to pull on his first Kangaroos jersey since the 2022 World Cup final, where he scored a double in Australia's 30-10 win over Samoa.
He still comes into the tournament under an injury cloud due to a nerve issue in his back, but refused to comment on the matter.
“I don't wanna talk about injuries,” he said.
Australia begin their Rugby League World Cup campaign next Thursday against New Zealand.
What happens next for Mitchell?
The November 1 market opening will be the key date. If South Sydney maintain their position, Mitchell will be free to field offers from rival clubs, with the Perth Bears and Parramatta among the most interested parties.
His performances in the World Cup could also shape the conversation, particularly if he returns to his best form on the international stage.
