Melbourne hotel's daily 'Chocolate Hour' offers free desserts for one hour
Guests at the Mövenpick Hotel in Melbourne can enjoy unlimited free desserts for one hour every day, a sweet tradition that has become a signature drawcard for the Swiss-born brand.
From 2pm, the hotel's bar transforms for 'Chocolate Hour', offering a spread of chocolate tarts, cakes and other treats that are restocked throughout the hour with new options. The event is a nod to the brand's Swiss heritage, a country renowned for its chocolate.
What is Mövenpick's Chocolate Hour?
The daily event at Mövenpick properties worldwide reflects the brand's origins. Mövenpick began as a restaurant group before expanding into its famous ice cream line and, later, hotels. The elevator directory at the Melbourne property even lists ice cream as a key amenity alongside the pool, gym, reception, bar and restaurant.
Children under 12 also receive free unlimited ice cream from the Mövenpick Café.
Where are Mövenpick hotels in Australia?
There are only two Mövenpick Hotels in Australia: one in Melbourne and one in Hobart, both opened in 2021. The Melbourne property, a 172-room hotel on Spencer Street, sits opposite Southern Cross Station and features large windows in the lobby, bar and restaurant with views of the city's activity.
The pool on level two has shutters that let in the sounds of the city below, and hallways are lined with artistic photographs of Melbourne taken by local photographers.
Miss Mi: the underrated restaurant at Mövenpick Melbourne
While Chocolate Hour is a highlight, the hotel's ground-floor restaurant, Miss Mi, has been quietly earning acclaim. Despite receiving a 2026 Chef Hat award from the Australian Good Food Guide, the Asian fusion restaurant has fewer than 4,000 Instagram followers.
Filipino head chef Migo Razon oversees an open kitchen, presenting dishes that blend Filipino techniques with Australian ingredients. Standouts include a share plate of cucumbers prepared four ways, snapper kilawin with pickled root vegetables, avocado, coconut dressing and desert lime, and a vegan take on Filipino pork tocino using beancurd skin slow-cooked in pineapple juice marinade.
From a barramundi fritter to a grilled corn salad, the menu offers consistently flavourful and surprising options, earning Miss Mi a place among recommended venues for special occasions in Melbourne.
