Pakistan Shaheens celebrate their commanding victory over Bangladesh 'A' at Darwin's TIO Stadium

In a display of cricket prowess at Darwin's TIO Stadium, Pakistan Shaheens secured a commanding 79-run victory over Bangladesh 'A' in the opening match of the Top End T20 Series on Thursday evening, continuing the exciting cricket action at the venue that recently hosted Australia's thrilling T20 triumph.

Batting Masterclass Sets the Stage

After choosing to bat first, the Shaheens demonstrated remarkable batting depth reminiscent of recent high-scoring encounters in Darwin. Openers Khawaja Nafay (61 off 31) and Yasir Khan (62 off 40) laid a solid foundation with an explosive 118-run partnership in just 11.1 overs.

Abdul Samad's unbeaten 56 off 27 balls, featuring five sixes, and captain Muhammad Irfan Khan's quick-fire 25, propelled the team to an imposing 227 for four in their allocated 20 overs.

Spinners Seal the Victory

Despite Bangladesh 'A' making a promising start in their chase, reaching 92 for one in seven overs, the match turned dramatically when left-arm spinner Maaz Sadaqat made the crucial breakthrough in the eighth over. The spin duo of Faisal Akram (3-19) and Saad Masood (3-30) then took control, while fast bowler Mohammad Wasim Jr contributed with 2-24.

Looking Ahead

The victory sets up an intriguing clash with the Scorchers on Saturday, as both teams aim to establish dominance in a series that's becoming increasingly significant for emerging cricket talent in the region. The match begins at 4 pm local time at TIO Stadium.
