The New South Wales (NSW) government has launched a cutting-edge healthcare innovation hub in Liverpool, marking a significant advancement in Australia's medical technology capabilities. The Perich Centre for Robotics and Health Technology, integrated with Liverpool Hospital, will serve as a pioneering facility for over 60 clinical scientists specializing in AI, robotics, and digital healthcare solutions.

Strategic Investment in Healthcare Innovation

The centre, part of the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research, is supported through the state's A$160m Medical Research Support Program. This investment aligns with NSW's broader healthcare transformation initiatives, having received more than A$24m in government funding in recent years.

Advanced Research and Technology Integration

The facility will house groundbreaking research projects including:

  • Remote sensing and wearable devices for midwifery and women's health
  • Rehabilitation robotics and gamified therapy solutions
  • Digital health innovations for diabetes and gastrointestinal management
  • AI applications in cardiology, cancer, and stroke treatment

This development represents a significant step forward in Australia's digital healthcare transformation, combining clinical expertise with technological innovation.

Future-Focused Healthcare Training

The centre will also feature advanced surgical robotics studies and develop immersive training environments, similar to how Australian technology innovation is revolutionizing other sectors.

"The Ingham Institute has a strong focus on translating research from benchtop to bedside for the diverse local communities of South Western Sydney and beyond," stated NSW medical research minister David Harris.

This initiative embodies the NSW Health Research and Innovation Strategy 2025 to 2030, positioning the state at the forefront of medical research through collaborative efforts between government, academia, health services, and industry partners.
