Brendan Doggett training with South Australia ahead of potential Ashes call-up

South Australia coach Ryan Harris has declared fast bowler Brendan Doggett is primed and ready for Test cricket if called upon during the upcoming Ashes series. The announcement comes as Australia manages its pace bowling depth with several key players managing injuries.

Peak Form and Preparation

Doggett, who was part of last season's Test squad and travelled as a reserve for the World Test Championship final, has completed an intensive winter training program after recovering from a hip injury that forced him to withdraw from the West Indies tour.

"He's had a really good winter," Harris said. "He's bowling fast and he's moving the ball, which is good. He'll definitely start for us."

Depth Testing Times

The timing of Doggett's form couldn't be better, with Josh Hazlewood's availability being closely monitored and captain Pat Cummins managing a back injury. While Scott Boland remains next in line, Doggett could be just one injury away from a Test debut.

The pace attack's management has become particularly crucial with Mitchell Starc focusing on Test cricket and several key bowlers juggling workload considerations.

Impressive Shield Performance

Doggett's credentials are impressive, having taken 44 wickets at an average of 20.56 last season, including a career-best 6/15 against India A and a match-winning 11-wicket haul in the Sheffield Shield final.

"He's definitely ready for Test cricket," Harris emphasized. "He knows what he needs to do. He knows when to step it up and bowl quick and knows he can control his pace."

Pre-Ashes Schedule

The domestic season kicks off with the Dean Jones Trophy on September 16, followed by crucial Sheffield Shield matches that will serve as vital preparation for the Ashes. Several players, including Australia's elite athletes across different sports, are managing their schedules to ensure peak condition for the international season.
